This weekend saw the first of this season’s four AFL rostered games played in Launceston (right over the road from our Living Here office!) A bumper crowd of 16,000 people attended with pre-match entertainment and fire works to mark our first Saturday night game. Footy fans waited in long lines for up to an hour to enter the ground
The game was a low scoring affair with scores close for most of it before the Hawks broke away in the final quarter to eventually win by 35 points.
The Hawthorn Football Club are sponsored by Tasmania and play 4 home games in Launceston each year. They are also involved in the community throughout the year running programs for local kids and visiting schools and hospitals etc. On Sunday morning they played alongside the local Auskick kids at UTAS Stadium giving a large number of 4-8 year olds a chance to play against and meet some footy stars.
The AFL games always see an influx of tourists to our town with most accommodation booked out and restaurants and flights busy for the weekend. This is great for our city and we love to see the fans all bustling about to get to the game!
The next match at UTAS Stadium will be on the 2nd of June when the Hawks will take on Port Adelaide. Being so close to all the footy action, Living Here often have a football ticket giveaway each season so stay tuned to our facebook and Instagram pages for details on which game this may be….
